The cake base is a three piece dummy connected with wooden pegs and buttercream. The three tiers of the cake are covered in traditional buttercream made with butter and icing sugar. The shade of charcoal on the cake is created using Van Houten’s Intense Deep Black Cacao. The textures are a blend of naturally occurring surfaces in nature like tree bark and the clean lines of concrete .
The decorations on the cake are made using edible materials. The trumpet flower, sails and the pink vines are made with rice paper and rice noodles coloured with Wiltons food colouring. Smaller details include some splashes of dark gold paint by Rainbow Dust and some dried flower details.
